IMPLICAÇÕES DA PRIVAÇÃO DO SONO NA QUALIDADE DE VIDA DOS INDIVÍDUOS

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo discutir as implicações a alta demanda de produtividade, bem como a exposição crescente a equipamentos eletrônicos causam na modulação do sono e, consequentemente, na qualidade de vida dos indivíduos. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo descritivo, pois foi realizada uma revisão narrativa de literatura. A revisão encontrou diferentes implicações na qualidade de vida causadas pela privação do sono resultante de hábitos contemporâneos. A exposição à luz artificial emitida por equipamentos eletrônicos inibe a síntese de melatonina, que se trata de um hormônio produzido pela glândula pineal responsável por promover relaxamento muscular e sensação de bem-estar. Sua síntese prejudicada dificulta os processos fisiológicos necessários para o sono, de forma que a exposição a tais equipamentos eletrônicos representa implicações na qualidade do sono dos indivíduos. Também há estudos demonstrando que o estresse elevado, outro fator cada vez mais comum em nosso cotidiano, prejudica a neurofisiologia ideal para o sono com qualidade. Em um curto período, a privação do sono altera a modulação do humor, o desempenho cognitivo e a consolidação da memória de longo-prazo. A longo prazo, as consequências da privação do sono tendem a se agravar, tendo em vista que é durante o sono que ocorre reparo celular, conservação de energia e a síntese de alguns hormônios importantes para o metabolismo. Em virtude disso, a privação do sono em longo prazo pode causar disfunções metabólicas e estresse oxidativo, além de ser um fator de risco para doenças neurodegenerativas. Os autores julgam importante a divulgação de tais informações, enfatizando a significativa importância da qualidade do sono para a vida dos indivíduos, visando a adoção de estratégias preventivas de tais consequências associadas à privação do sono.
